“Even the greatest of flies begin with a single wrap of thread.” ~Aaron Heusinkveld.
Aaron has been a participant with Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing for since 2013. Following a two-month PTSD therapy program at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center in Minnesota, Aaron has continued attending the weekly meetings since he lives in the area. As his skills increased, Aaron took on a more active role in assisting the new veterans that were joining the program. For the past three years, Aaron has been in charge of the beginners’ station for first time participants. This includes instruction in the use of basic fly tying tools and the completion of their first Wooly Bugger.
Aaron discovered how much he enjoys teaching fly tying and created “All Tied Up Fly Tying School.” Offering tying lessons as well as function as a mobile fly shop in his community, Aaron fully believes in giving back to the community. A two-time past Post Commander at his local VFW and is currently the Exalted Ruler with his local Elks Lodge, Editor for the St. Cloud Fly Anglers Club, and of course active with his local Project Healing Waters Chapter. When not at the fly tying bench or volunteering, Aaron can be found on the Mississippi River or any of the other 10,000 lakes.
